As AI debate flares, Melania Trump will tour a North Carolina school to see technology at work

First lady Melania Trump is scheduled to visit a school in northwestern North Carolina on Tuesday, to discuss technology's role in the classroom with students, teachers, and staff. This marks her fourth trip to the state since 2025.

The visit coincides with ongoing debates among tech and political figures over the regulation of artificial intelligence. While some prominent tech leaders have expressed concerns about AI's potential dangers and called for stricter oversight, President Donald Trump dismissed calls for more limits, describing the idea as a "hoax".

During a recent White House event, Melania Trump displayed her support for using technology in education by walking in with a humanoid robot. At a previous AI in education task force meeting, she emphasized the importance of responsibly managing AI's growth, comparing it to parenting children with guidance and oversight. Technology in education is one of the first lady's key concerns, alongside advocating for foster children and pushing for Congress to pass the "Take It Down Act", which would make revenge pornography a crime.
