Argentina to file new complaints against oil companies operating in Malvinas

The Argentine government plans to intensify its legal actions against companies engaged in hydrocarbon exploration and production in the waters surrounding the Malvinas islands, according to a statement by Presidential spokesman Adrián Ravier. Existing complaints will be expanded, and new legal actions will be taken against companies operating without Argentine authorization.

These actions will not be restricted to companies alone; any entity associated with exploration or production activities in the Malvinas will be barred from entering into agreements with the Argentine government. This could include restrictions on access to incentive programs like the RIGI or participation in major projects such as Vaca Muerta.

Ravier emphasized that Argentina will employ all available means to sanction and prevent any violations of its rights and sovereignty over the islands. The military base in Ushuaia will serve as a strategic logistical hub for Argentina's presence in the South Atlantic, facilitating better monitoring and control of natural resources and supporting operations in Antarctica.

The base will feature commercial and civilian docks and play a crucial role in protecting strategic assets, including the Vaca Muerta field. The UK, however, rejects these legal claims, asserting that Argentina lacks jurisdiction to enforce its laws in the Malvinas. The UK guidelines emphasize its support for legitimate economic activities in the islands and the right of the Falkland Islanders to manage their economy and exploit resources like hydrocarbons.

The UK maintains that Argentina has no legal basis for exercising jurisdiction over the Falkland Islands or enforcing its domestic laws within the territory.
