West Virginia assistant football coach Noel Devine arrested on strangulation charge, records show

West Virginia assistant football coach Noel Devine has been arrested on a felony strangulation charge, according to Morgantown police records. The 38-year-old was booked into jail on Sunday, with a not guilty plea entered and bail set at $40,000. Devine was released from jail pending his preliminary hearing on September 23.

West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez announced that Devine has been placed on leave from the team, with future decisions on his status to be determined after further information is available. Devine, who has been with the Mountaineers since 2025, played as a three-year starter at running back from 2007-2010. He compiled 19 100-yard rushing games and had over 1,000 all-purpose yards across his four seasons.
