Two‑year‑old mauled by stray dogs in Batu Pahat to undergo reconstructive surgery

Batu Pahat, September 14 — In a tragic incident that occurred on September 6, a two-year-old girl named Nur Haira Wafiqah Mohammad Hamizi was severely mauled by five stray dogs outside her grandmother’s residence in Kampung Tambak, Peserai. The attack left the young girl with critical injuries, particularly to her head and face.

According to the reporting by Berita Harian, Haira’s aunt, who requested to remain nameless, revealed to the family that reconstructive surgery was their best medical option given the severity of her wounds. The medical team informed the parents that ordinary treatment would not suffice for Haira’s condition. Despite making progress, such as being able to breathe independently without respiratory support and opening her eyes, she still remains unresponsive.

The medical professionals are closely monitoring her condition, and the family has requested prayers for her recovery. Prior to the attack, another group of stray dogs, estimated to be around 10 in number, had been sighted in an oil palm plantation close to the victim’s grandfather’s house. The authorities had earlier captured seven dogs, including five puppies, who were responsible for the initial attack on the young girl.

Three additional dogs remain at large, causing concern among the villagers who do not wish for a recurrence of the incident.
