Two‑year‑old mauled by stray dogs in Batu Pahat to undergo reconstructive surgery

BATU PAHAT, September 14 - A two-year-old girl, Nur Haira Wafiqah Mohammad Hamizi, who was attacked by stray dogs outside her grandmother's home in Kampung Tambak, Peserai, on September 6, is anticipated to receive reconstructive surgery soon. The attack, which involved five dogs, left Haira with severe head and facial injuries.

Her aunt, identified only as Nur, revealed that doctors have advised reconstructive surgery due to the gravity of her injuries. Nur stated, "We were told that ordinary treatment or surgery would not be suitable. Haira can now breathe on her own without respiratory support. She has also opened her eyes, though there is no response yet."

The medical team continues to monitor her condition, and the family is seeking prayers for her recovery. Prior to the incident, another pack of ten stray dogs was encountered in an oil palm plantation behind Haira's grandfather's house. Nur expressed concerns, stating, "I believe 10 other dogs appeared at the plantation around 11am today.

Previously, the authorities caught seven dogs, including five puppies, which attacked Haira. Three more have yet to be captured and are still roaming near the house. Now another pack of strays has emerged, raising fears they could cause further problems and disturb residents. We do not want a repeat of what happened to my niece."
