Turnover-prone Baker Mayfield turns attention to matchup against Browns
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers experienced a mixed performance from their quarterback, Baker Mayfield, in their first season-opening loss since 2020. Mayfield faced challenges with ball security, losing three fumbles that contributed to 17 points against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite these turnovers, Mayfield showcased efficiency with 23 completions out of 28 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
However, his inability to protect the ball hampered the outcome of the game. The Buccaneers fell to the Bengals 33-27, joining the rest of the NFC South in a 0-1 record. With the Buccaneers facing the Browns next, Mayfield emphasized the importance of learning from this loss and moving forward, acknowledging the historical context of the matchup but maintaining a focus on future success.
Rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter delivered a strong performance, contributing significantly to the Buccaneers' efforts.
