Trump dismisses report China supplied intel to Iran

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump dismissed reports that Chinese entities had supplied Iran with satellite images of a military base before an Iranian strike that killed three American soldiers. In July, Iranian missiles targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which hosts US forces. Trump, speaking to reporters on Air Force One as he returned from Ireland, stated, "When they say that China spies on us, I say you're right, and we spy on them too.

That's what we do. They basically do what we do." The Wall Street Journal reported that unnamed American officials did not identify the Chinese entities that provided the images to Iran, nor did they imply direct involvement. Trump declined to comment on whether he would raise the issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping, whose visit to the White House is scheduled for September 24.

China has not officially confirmed the meeting. Trump reiterated his belief in a strong relationship with Xi, saying, "I think he's behaved reasonably well, and we behave reasonably well." The US has previously warned China against supplying Iran with weapons. In May, Washington sanctioned three Chinese satellite companies for their dealings with Iranian military entities.

China is a key economic and diplomatic partner for Iran and the primary destination for its oil exports.
