Tinubu allocates EFCC-recovered property as new NDPC headquarters

President Bola Tinubu has approved the transfer of a property recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to become the new headquarters of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. This was announced by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, during the facility's commissioning in Abuja.

Tijani emphasized that the property was allocated to the NDPC following complaints about its expanding responsibilities and the need for a more suitable office. The minister highlighted that this act of returning a recovered asset to productive use serves to protect Nigerians and strengthen trust in the digital economy. Dr Tijani noted that the NDPC had faced funding challenges early on, including difficulties meeting salary obligations, before receiving direct financial assistance from the President.

The new headquarters were approved by the EFCC in July 2025, with renovation work commencing in March 2026. The NDPC, initially starting with 12 employees and no dedicated funding in February 2022, has now licensed 356 Data Protection Compliance Organisations and created over 27,000 jobs in just three years.
