‘The Surgeon’ Review: Michelle Yeoh Doctors a Gang of Mobsters to Death in a Fun Little Action Movie That Gets by on Its Grossness

Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh underwent extensive surgical training for her role in the action thriller "The Surgeon." The movie, directed by Roshan Sethi, saw Yeoh learning the intricacies of surgery under the guidance of a radiation oncologist and a renowned surgeon at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. Sethi, who is also a creator of the Fox medical series "The Resident," enlisted the help of Dr. O’Keefe, who specializes in teaching surgical techniques using a simulator lab.

Yeoh's commitment to authenticity was evident as she meticulously practiced surgical procedures, from scrubbing in to performing knots, to ensure her on-screen movements appeared genuine. The actress even observed a pig dissection at the Royal College, a surprise to the medical students who were present. Sethi's brother contributed to her training by creating humorous videos demonstrating surgical cuts with a toast, even incorporating his Harvard diploma for added authenticity. "The Surgeon" is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday.
