‘The Fox King’ comes home after winning hearts in Toronto, Busan and Udine, showing in Malaysian cinemas from Sept 17

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — Malaysia-Indonesia film The Fox King has finally made its nationwide debut on September 17, one day after Malaysia Day, following its successful run in Toronto, Busan and Udine. Director Woo Ming Jin revealed that the film holds personal significance, as some of its storylines are based on his own experiences growing up with an identical twin.

Woo aimed to create a relatable film that delves into various themes, including family dynamics, first love, and personal growth. The Malaysia-Indonesia produced movie stars Indonesian actress Dian Sastrowardoyo as Lara, who brings her mental health struggles to the forefront, pushing her performance to new heights. Dian shared that playing Lara allowed her to embrace her instincts and confront her own challenges as an actor.

Co-stars Idan Aedan and Hadi Putra, who portray twin brothers Ali and Amir, spoke about their unique bond and the challenges they faced in bringing their characters to life. The film's international journey began in 2023 and includes impressive accolades, such as participating in the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market and winning the Mocha Chai Award at the QCinema Project Market in the Philippines.
