Cowboys mistakes and missed opportunities doom them in opener

Additionally, the Cowboys defense struggled, finishing with five turnover opportunities but only recovering one.

The Giants capitalised on these mistakes, moving the ball effectively and chewing up clock, keeping the Cowboys off the field for extended periods. The Giants managed to convert on a high rate of third downs (81%), which allowed them to control the pace of the game and limit the Cowboys' offensive opportunities.

Offensively, the Cowboys faced challenges as well. George Pickens, once a reliable player throughout training camp, made two critical drops in the game – a punt and an interception thrown by Dak Prescott just before halftime. This interception proved to be a turning point, as the Giants scored two consecutive touchdowns following this mistake and went on to win convincingly.

The Cowboys entered the game as underdogs, expecting to triumph against the Giants in their own stadium. However, they failed to capitalize on their chances, committing untimely penalties, turning the ball over, and missing big plays. This combination of mistakes ultimately led to their first loss of the season, leaving them at 0-1.
