Raja Muda Perlis dimasyhur canselor pertama UMAM

Raja Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, has been honored as the first Canselor of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) for a period of five years. The ceremony took place at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), where he received the watikah from the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education and Republik Indonesia, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the Central Muhammadiyah Headquarters, Dr Abdul Mu ti.

Dr Abdul Mu ti represented the Chairman of the Central Muhammadiyah P\Haedar Nashir at the ceremony.

In his speech during the inauguration, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra expressed hope that UMAM will continue to progress in terms of academic quality, research integrity, student welfare, and human development. He emphasized that a university's advancement is not solely measured by the number of students, programs, or achievements but through the quality of graduates and benefits provided to society.

As Canselor, he aims to see UMAM move forward further, strengthening research in relevant areas, expanding international networks, and building strategic partnerships with Muhammadiyah universities and other higher education institutions across Southeast Asia.

During the ceremony, Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra's children, including Puteri Sharifah Farah Adriana Jamalullail, also attended. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra expressed his hope that UMAM will continue to fulfill its role as a bridge of friendship, strengthening ties between Malaysia and Indonesia through education, as it not only connects institutions but also builds networks of people, ideas, and experiences that can evolve across generations.

He emphasized that at this time, UMAM has a significant opportunity to strengthen its role in the Asean higher education agenda. With students from two Nusantara countries and Thailand, UMAM forms a strong foundation for building a broader, dynamic, and mutually enriching academic community.
