PSD to review initiatives to improve civil servants’ income

Director-general of the public services department, Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, announced that the government is reviewing measures to improve the income of civil servants. During a speech at the Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference 2026, he stated that civil servants' current salaries do not fall below the poverty line; it is mainly a matter of how they manage their expenses.

The public services director-general emphasized the importance of civil servants planning their spending wisely. Apart from advising civil servants, the government is also exploring any measures that could enhance their income. The director-general noted that salary adjustments for civil servants have already been implemented through the Public Service Remuneration System, which came into effect in December 2024.

This major reform aimed to boost staff motivation through a more competitive salary structure and a fairer, transparent performance assessment process. Any new initiatives to further improve civil servants' income would depend on the country's financial capacity.
