Prosecutor General Kravchenko files criminal charges against NABU director Kryvonos

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has filed criminal charges against National Anti-Corruption Bureau Director Semen Kryvonos, alleging that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously prevented Kravchenko from pursuing the case, according to a video address on September 14. Kravchenko claimed that anti-corruption agencies gained legally protected case files during Operation Carthage and subsequent searches, with some documents being copied and stolen.

He suspected Kryvonos of forging official documents to benefit personally and arranging a sham adoption to avoid liability. Kravchenko also accused a close associate of SAPO head Oleksandr Klymenko of influencing a high-ranking court official, offering illicit benefits, and aiding in mobilization evasion. The Prosecutor General stated that he filed the charges despite Zelenskyy's political interference and NABU's and SAPO's attempts to block them.

Kryvonos denied the charges, calling them fabricated, while Kravchenko resigned as Prosecutor General on September 7, claiming it was a "political decision." NABU launched Operation Carthage to dismantle a criminal organization allegedly led by a senior Prosecutor General's Office official, resulting in the arrest of Serhii Kropyva, head of the agency's cyber department.

Kropyva was suspected of protecting a transnational network of fraudulent call centers and laundering over $2 million in criminal proceeds.
