Police rescue kidnapped woman, arrest suspected gang member in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command rescued a woman named Loveth from her captors and apprehended a suspected gang member during a recent operation. Loveth was abducted on September 2, 2026, while standing near her shop. Armed kidnappers had fired shots into the air before seizing her and placing her in their vehicle. In a statement, the Command's spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, noted that the Eleme Police Division initiated an intelligence-driven operation to locate the victim and her abductors following an order from the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju.

ASP Kaborlo revealed that the police subsequently engaged in a shootout with the suspected kidnappers. Loveth was successfully rescued and arrested 35-year-old Victor Ini, who authorities suspect to be a member of the gang. Among the items seized from the suspect were a silver-colored mini Keke bus (registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja); two homemade pistols; one live round of ammunition; a mobile phone; two identity cards; two black gowns; and a vehicle number plate with registration number KRK 528 HG.

The police spokesperson emphasized that the Command is increasing efforts to identify and arrest additional members of the suspected gang. The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the Police will continue to employ all lawful means to safeguard lives and property and prosecute criminals. Adepoju cautioned criminals operating in the state that "there is no safe haven for criminals in Rivers State," as the police would persistently pursue those involved in kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The Command also appealed to residents to be more vigilant during the rainy season, indicating that criminal activities might rise in frequency. They urged the public to remain observant and furnish the police with accurate and timely information to prevent crime and apprehend criminals.
