Perak proposes 24-hour CCTV monitoring at Menora Tunnel after slope collapse

Perak's government has proposed setting up a 24-hour CCTV monitoring station around the Menora Tunnel following a recent slope collapse. This initiative, proposed by Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, aims to bolster safety and ease highway users' concerns.

Enhanced patrols by Plus Malaysia Bhd and suitable warning signs on both sides of the highway are also part of the proposed measures. Nizar pointed out that the collapse was likely triggered by heavy rain and soil movement, with the tree above the highway falling due to ground movement rather than the rocks themselves. Immediate mitigation works by the Malaysian Highway Authority and Plus have been undertaken to stabilize the slope, but long-term solutions are under evaluation.

Plastic sheeting has been installed to prevent rainwater from infiltrating the affected soil during ongoing monitoring. Nizar assured highway users that the route remains secure, with Plus and LLM maintaining vigilant monitoring and rapid response to any further ground movement.
