KM263.6 southbound towards Menora Tunnel now safe for motorists after rapid slope‑erosion mitigation, says Perak exco

IPOH, Sept 14 — The state government has confirmed that the North-South Expressway (PLUS) route near KM263.6, southbound toward the Menora Tunnel, is now secure for motorists after a slope erosion incident on Sept 11. Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin revealed that continuous monitoring and mitigation measures were undertaken to guarantee traffic safety.

"Travelers can rest assured that the route is safe, thanks to swift action by PLUS and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM)," he stated during a visit to the affected site. The route was restored within under 24 hours after waterproof sheeting was installed to deter rainwater from further softening the soil. Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin informed that the left lane at the landslide location would be closed to accommodate safety cones for a one-kilometre stretch from KM262.8 to KM263.8.

Long-term safety solutions include slope structure reinforcement, steel netting in high-risk areas, and satellite monitoring in collaboration with the Public Works Department (JKR). Mohammad Nizar also proposed installing 24-hour CCTV cameras and increased patrols in high-risk zones. He attributed the erosion to the unusually high rainfall of 65 millimetres compared to the usual 40 millimetres, possibly due to weakened trees causing landslides.
