Penjara 10 tahun, jual daging babi di kota suci

In Najaf, Iraq, a meat vendor has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling pig meat as cow meat in the holy city of Najaf. The Supreme Court of Iraq stated that the man was arrested with 75kg of pig meat and sentenced to 10 years for selling non-permissible meat. Iraq does not ban the sale of pig meat, which is consumed by the Christian minority population.

The court's decision was based on a 1998 law that prohibits the sale of "dog meat, donkey meat, or any other meat that is not suitable for human consumption." The recent arrest of the meat vendor has sparked public concern about stricter food safety monitoring, but some Najaf residents, like Ahmad al-Mansouri, express surprise at the severity of the punishment, stating that they have eaten more pig meat than cow or goat meat in recent years.
