Pat Fitzgerald focused on 'Spartan way' to get ready for Notre Dame

Michigan State football coach Pat Fitzgerald emphasized the importance of preparation and mindset in the lead-up to the Spartans' first Big Ten game against Notre Dame. Fitzgerald questioned the definition of a "measuring stick" performance, stating that it is not merely about winning but also about specific aspects of the team's preparation.

Speaking to reporters on Sept. 14, Fitzgerald expressed his focus on Tuesday practices, as he wants to see the Spartans compete in a "really frickin' good Tuesday practice." He acknowledged that his expectations for the preparation and mindset of his team may seem simple but are crucial in getting the Spartans back to the upper echelon of the Big Ten and CFP title chases.

Fitzgerald also addressed issues he noticed in the team's performance, such as the special teams units and extracurricular nonsense in plays. He moved the practice of the "B" team to Monday morning to better prepare the 80 players they will take to Notre Dame Stadium. Despite Notre Dame being a 29.5-point favorite, Fitzgerald believes they can win every game and stated that his expectation is for the Spartans to compete for a Big Ten and National Championship.
