Passport: UK mission clarifies £70 fee, refunds £50

The Nigeria High Commission in London has clarified that the £70 administrative fee paid by some Nigerians during the passport intervention exercise was not approved by the Federal Government. The commission stated that the standard administrative charge remains at £20. A notice published on the High Commission's website informed applicants that they would receive a £50 refund, leaving the original £20 standard fee.

The High Commission clarified that any claims suggesting the £70 fee had presidential approval were incorrect. The Federal Government and the Nigeria Immigration Service had also issued statements denying any additional charges beyond the official passport fees during the intervention exercise, which has been extended from September 19 to October 3 due to high applicant turnout.
