“Military regime’s 5 major criminals, Jeong Ho-yong, not exonerated of massacre responsibility just because he died”… May 18th groups condemnation

The 5·18 Democratic Movement commemoration committee recently expressed their stance on the death of 정호용, a former special forces commander and one of the perpetrators responsible for the 5·18 massacre. The GNP (General National Defense Forces) 5 members – 전두홍, 노태우, 이희성, 황영시, and 정호용 – have all passed away, but the committee asserts that the responsibility for the massacre does not end simply because they have died.

They argue that 정호용 and the other perpetrators have never admitted to or taken responsibility for their actions, and have only sought political gain through their actions. The committee has called for the truth about the circumstances surrounding the former 전 사령관's actions, including the firing of artillery and the handling of confiscated evidence, to be revealed.

They maintain that 정호용 received a prestigious military and political career as a result of the massacre, and that he died as a person who concealed the truth and enjoyed a lavish life. The committee has vowed to continue their efforts to rectify the injustices surrounding 5·18 and the actions of their compatriots, including the recent addition of 7 more victims to the 국회의원 고발 list.
