Pas demands explanation over deferment of Najib's pardon application

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition party Pas has called for an explanation from the government regarding the postponement of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon application. Takiyuddin Hassan, Pas' secretary-general, stated that the matter is of public interest and requires an immediate explanation. The deferment, announced by the Prime Minister's Department's Legal Affairs Division on September 11, has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding it.

Pas believes that such a deferment would not have occurred without a directive or objection from the Pardons Board members or other interested parties. The party demands that the government clarifies the situation to the public, as it is a matter of public interest that should not be kept from the people. The Prime Minister's Department had previously informed that Najib's application would be deferred to a future Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting, with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, also consenting to the deferral.
