Pakistan fined and docked 11 WTC points for slow over-rate in final test against England

Islamabad (AP) — Pakistan received a penalty and lost 11 points from its World Test Championship ranking on Monday following a slow over-rate during their eight-wicket defeat against England in the third and final test match at Edgbaston. The International Cricket Council determined Pakistan was 11 overs behind schedule, accounting for time allowances, during the match that concluded on Saturday.

Consequently, Pakistan was fined half of its match fee and incurred an 11-point deduction in the championship cycle. Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the sanction after third and fourth umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, along with Allahudien Palekar, noted the infringement. Pakistan currently sits at the bottom of the WTC standings with only two wins from nine test matches.

The team has two more series to play this cycle, against Sri Lanka in November and New Zealand in March 2027. Pakistan also concluded last in the previous WTC cycle and replaced its captain after a 2-0 loss to Bangladesh earlier this year. However, the situation deteriorated during their tour of England, with selectors dismissing seven players following a 2-0 loss to Bangladesh earlier this year.
