NSCDC arrests 58-year-old man for alleged 20-year drug trafficking in Zamfara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Zamfara State has apprehended a 58-year-old man, Alhaji Haruna Amadu, accused of engaging in drug trafficking over a 20-year period. Amadu, from Tsageru village in Tsafe Local Government Area, was apprehended on September 8, 2026. Nine other suspects were also arrested for alleged vandalism and theft of government infrastructure.

These suspects were brought before the NSCDC headquarters in Gusau on Monday. The state commandant, Sani Mustapha, announced the arrests as part of the NSCDC's responsibility to combat criminal activities and safeguard public infrastructure. According to the NSCDC, Amadu confessed to identifying eight other individuals involved in the suspected vandalism, theft, and destruction of government property.

The nine suspects admitted to their involvement in these offenses. In a separate operation, Emmanuel Okonkwo, also 58 years old, was apprehended in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area on September 10, 2026. Okonkwo claimed that he had two alleged accomplices, Yellow and Sadiq, who remain at large. He confessed to operating a chemist in Birnin Magaji for more than 20 years, where he allegedly sold hard drugs, including cannabis, Exol 5, Tramadol, and Diazepam D10 tablets. Ongoing investigations are being conducted into these cases.
