Norris says Madring and F1's virtual safety car rule both need to change

Lando Norris, the world champion driver of McLaren, has called for changes to both the design of the new Formula One circuit in Madrid and the virtual safety car (VSC) rule. Norris lost a race that was within his grasp due to the VSC rule, which can lead to drivers being penalized for being too far ahead. The only F1 race at the Madrid circuit was a procession, with drivers saying it was boring and needed to be more exciting.

Norris believes the track could benefit from removing turns 18 and 19, and creating a straight into a hairpin. He also wants to see a change to the VSC rule, so that all cars have the opportunity to pit during the virtual safety period, or if that's not possible, block pit entry for everyone except those with a puncture. Norris acknowledges potential complications, such as if drivers need to switch from slicks to wet tires, but believes fairness for all drivers is essential.
