No act of violence will be allowed to derail Manipur's path towards peace: State home minister

Imphal, Manipur - Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam declared on Monday that no act of violence will be permitted to hinder the state's progress towards peace and normalcy, following the killing of four individuals in separate incidents in Tamenglong and Noney districts. Two of the victims were women. The attacks coincided with Sahnit Ni, the annual remembrance day of ethnic violence victims during the Kuki-Naga conflict in the 1990s.

Home Minister Konthoujam expressed deep anguish over the tragic incident in Tollen Kuki village, where Lhingjangai Singsit was killed, and her husband and young son were shot.

Konthoujam vowed that violence against innocent civilians is unacceptable and will be dealt with firmly. He has directed authorities to take all necessary measures to uncover the facts, identify the perpetrators, and ensure the law is followed without fear or favor. He emphasized that those responsible will be pursued according to the law and held accountable.

The state's path towards peace and normalcy must not be derailed by violence, he added. Another shooting incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, where a woman and a man were killed by armed militants in Longpi village.
