4 killed, 6-year-old injured after fresh violence breaks out in Manipur's Tamenglong

In Manipur's Tamenglong district, a tragic series of attacks occurred on Sunday, claiming four lives and injuring a six-year-old. The first incident transpired at dawn in Tollen village, where a 46-year-old woman, Lhingzangai Singsit, was fatally shot by armed assailants, followed by the death of her husband, Seineh Singsit, from bullet wounds.

The second attack unfolded in Longpi village around 10 hours later, resulting in the deaths of a man and a woman. Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh voiced his dismay over the senseless violence, condemning such acts and extending condolences to the bereaved families. Police are actively investigating to identify the perpetrators, but no group has thus far claimed responsibility.

The injured victims from Tollen village were transported to Silchar Medical College in Assam, though the husband passed away during transit. The six-year-old victim remains stable and is receiving treatment at the same facility. The Kaimai village authority denounced the attack as a calculated attempt to sow discord among communities and emphasized the need for a fair and unbiased inquiry to bring the culprits to justice.

The second attack in Longpi village, situated approximately 30 kilometers west of the police station, saw a woman and a man perish. Local Kuki group Western Village Volunteer (WVV) identified the deceased as Jilie Singson and Reol Gangte, alleging that the attackers belonged to factions of NSCN-IM and ZUF-K. The group claims that the assailants pursued the village center before being repelled with gunfire.

This incident coincided with "Black Day," an annual remembrance of victims of ethnic violence during the Kuki–Naga conflict in the 1990s.
