Miguel Rojas Optimistic For Rest of Season Despite Shoulder Injury

Miguel Rojas, a Los Angeles Dodgers infielder set to retire at the conclusion of the 2026 season, left Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins with a shoulder injury. The 37-year-old aggravated his shoulder while diving to field a ball during the top of the eighth inning. Tommy Edman took over at second base for the bottom of the inning.

Rojas, who has dealt with a labrum tear throughout most of his career, expressed his hope that a cortisone injection would keep him in contention for the remainder of the season. He acknowledged the soreness in his shoulder, stating it was a familiar feeling he had experienced before. Rojas spent his career with the Marlins before returning to the Dodgers in 2015, playing for the team in Miami for eight seasons.

His last game in front of LoanDepot Park fans ended in a loss for the Dodgers, adding to the emotional weight of the day. Despite the injury, Rojas managed a .704 OPS with three hits and 20 RBIs in 94 games this season, with his defensive skills registering a plus-2 fielding run value and outs above average ranking in the top 15% of MLB.

The Dodgers have backup infielders, Alex Freeland and Tommy Edman, who can step in if Rojas is sidelined for an extended period.
