Machado homers as the Padres beat the Giants 6-4 for 7th straight victory

Machado's powerful two-run homer marked the decisive moment in the first inning, propelling the Padres ahead to stay. The Padres continued their dominance, scoring three more runs in the second inning, with Machado contributing again by driving Webb's pitch deep to left field.

The Padres widened their lead to 5-2 with Andrew Knizner's two-run shot off Nick Pivetta in the bottom half of the second inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. contributed significantly with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. His clutch single in the fourth inning, driving in Ethan Salas, further extended the Padres' lead to 6-2. Logan Webb, making his fifth start of the season, allowed six runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Despite the setbacks, Webb secured the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, pitching effectively to end the game. Yuki Matsui, entering the game for the first time as a relief pitcher, struck out Jonah Cox swinging on a 10-pitch at-bat, earning his first save of the season and the second of his three-season career. Looking ahead, the Padres will face Rockies right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano (12-9, 5.30 ERA) in Denver on Monday night, while the Giants will take on Cardinals left-hander Quinn Mathews (1-3, 4.11) in St. Louis on the same night.
