Manitoba offers to waive sales tax on major Port of Churchill investments

Manitoba has announced it will waive the provincial sales tax on major capital investments for the Port of Churchill in a bid to lure international investment. Premier Wab Kinew unveiled the new tax exemption at a major investment summit in Toronto, organized by the federal government.

The tax break will apply to proposals for a new energy corridor, liquefied natural gas facilities, upgrades to the railway leading to the port, and icebreaking capabilities to support year-round shipping. Manitoba officials say the measure is part of a larger push to attract over $85 billion in investments across various sectors, including energy, critical minerals, and agriculture.

Kinew is set to meet with global investors during his visit to Toronto to promote the Port of Churchill and other potential projects. The summit brings together hundreds of executives and asset managers, alongside Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney and other provincial leaders, to showcase investment opportunities across multiple industries.
