LP Chieftain Sues WAEC, UNN, NYSC over Peter Obi’s Credentials

Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi has filed three lawsuits against the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over the credentials of presidential candidate Peter Obi. The suits, filed on September 1 and 9, seek access to the affected institutions' official records related to Obi's academic history in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Arabambi's lawyer, Anderson Asemota, clarified that the suit does not seek to determine the authenticity of Obi's certificates but aims to obtain disclosure of the official records that would verify the status and particulars of the certificates. WAEC responded to the suit on August 11, citing the provisions of Sections 14(1)(a) and 14(2)(a) and (b) of the FOIA, which prevented the release of the requested information.

UNN and NYSC, however, neither granted the request nor provided a reason for their refusal. Arabambi is now seeking a court order compelling the institutions to reveal the results of their verification of Obi's certificate and to identify any withheld information and the statutory provisions they rely on for the denial.
