Korea Heritage Service to bring Seokguram Grotto exhibition to Paris

In honor of the 140-year anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, a prestigious exhibition showcasing one of Asia’s premier spiritual and architectural wonders will soon be on display in Paris. Beginning on October 1, the Korea Heritage Service (KHS) will present a landmark exhibition dedicated to the ancient Seokguram Grotto, transporting Europe to the heart of East Asian artistic mastery.

The exhibition, titled "The Millennium Mystery of Buddhist Art: Seokguram," will run until March 13 at the Korean Cultural Center in France. Collaborations include the center, the Gyeongju city government, and additional institutions.

Seokguram, an eighth-century artificial stone grotto near Gyeongju, houses a monumental seated Buddha statue and is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Silla Dynasty Buddhist art. Recognized for its exceptional cultural significance, the grotto was among the first Korean sites to join the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995. The exhibition will offer visitors an immersive digital experience, featuring a three-dimensional projection of the grotto’s interior across the walls and floor of the center’s auditorium.

Alongside this technological marvel, attendees will view a collection of photographs, as well as a tactile 3D model designed for visually impaired individuals.
