Kidnappers abandon victim, flee at police checkpoint in Anambra

In Anambra State, Nigeria, a 32-year-old woman named Ogechi Ofoma has been arrested for allegedly abusing her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube, by burning her with a hot knife. The incident occurred in the Ibollo community of Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area. According to police reports, Oluebube was accused of taking meat from a pot, leading to the brutal attack.

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, arrested Ofoma on Sunday after receiving a tip-off from the community and residents. The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest, praising the vigilance and courage of the community members who helped save the child.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, is working with the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to ensure the victim receives urgent medical care, protection, and welfare support. The state government, under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has also pledged to strengthen protective measures for children and hold perpetrators accountable.
