Jamil Khir didakwa lupus harta TH RM860 juta

Former Deputy Prime Minister Jamil Khir Baharom appeared in court, admitting to his guilt in a three-count case involving the embezzlement of Tabung Haji (TH) funds amounting to RM860.3 million. Khir faced allegations of misappropriating and transferring the funds to Al-Rawda Real Estate Development And Projects Management Co Ltd between April 3, 2015, and August 17, 2017, at the Prime Minister's Department office in Putrajaya.

If found guilty, the former minister could face a fine and a prison sentence ranging from six months to five years under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

The first charge involved falsely causing TH to disburse RM42,942,074, equivalent to 44.17 million Saudi Arabian Riyals, to Al-Rawda on April 3, 2015. The second charge alleged that Khir knowingly caused TH to transfer RM288,172,134.64, or over 250 million Saudi Arabian Riyals, to Al-Rawda on December 14, 2016. The third charge accused Khir of unlawfully causing TH to hand over RM529,194,561.87, or more than 471 million Saudi Arabian Riyals, to Al-Rawda on August 17, 2017.

Hakim Rosli Ahmad approved a RM300,000 bond with a surety and ordered Khir to surrender his passport to the court until the case concluded. The court set a hearing date of November 5 for the case to be finalized. Khir was represented by attorney Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, while Deputy Prosecutor Farah Ezlin Yusof Khan argued on behalf of the prosecution.
