‘I’ve nothing to hide’ – Sen. Buba submits self to DSS, police over banditry allegations

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, a candidate for governor of Bauchi State and a senator representing Bauchi South, has voluntarily submitted himself to security agencies for investigation over allegations of involvement in banditry, terrorism financing, kidnapping and other criminal activities. The senator, speaking at a press conference in Bauchi, stated that he sought the intervention of the Department of State Services (DSS), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Nigeria Police Force to clear his name and dispel rumors that had been circulating.

The allegations are not new, according to Buba, as a similar campaign emerged in 2014 and was later debunked. However, he claims that the accusations have resurfaced in different forms over the years. Buba said that his lawyers have formally requested a comprehensive investigation from the DSS, DIA, and the police, challenging anyone with evidence to submit it to the appropriate authorities.

He also mentioned that he had previously taken legal action against those spreading false allegations and that some of those accused were facing proceedings in the Federal High Court in Abuja. The senator urged anyone with evidence to come forward directly to the authorities, rather than relying on social media speculation or edited videos.

Buba emphasized that he has nothing to hide and is willing to face prosecution if credible evidence is presented against him. He also noted that his past engagements with security agencies may have been misrepresented, and he believes the allegations are being used to damage his political reputation.
