Wong Lee Ping, the mother of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen who died after being stabbed at a school in Bandar Utama, is determined to continue fighting for justice for her daughter, despite the death sentence given to the 15-year-old accused. Wong recalls her daughter's disciplined, diligent, and loving nature, and her sadness over her early death, saying that her daughter's life is just beginning.

Nearly a year after Yap's death, Wong tries to carry on with her life, working and living a normal life, but still feels the loss of important aspects of her daughter's life. At the High Court in Shah Alam, a juvenile male accused of killing Yap was recently released, after being deemed not legally competent when the crime was committed.

However, Judge Adlin Abdul Majid ordered the juvenile to be placed in a hospital in Ulu Kinta, Perak, until further notice from the Sultan of Selangor. The juvenile was accused of attacking the victim, who died at a female school toilet between 9:20 am and 9:35 am on October 14th last year. In January, the juvenile was declared fit to stand trial and capable of defending himself after a psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.

The murder trial began on August 3rd, with the proceedings held in closed session due to the involvement of a minor. The juvenile was ordered to defend himself on August 13th.
