‘I am the hoax buster’: Trump rejects AI danger warnings

US President Donald Trump dismissed concerns over artificial intelligence (AI) taking control, describing them as a "hoax". He made these remarks on Monday while posting multiple messages on his Truth Social network. Trump compared AI doomsday fears to previous warnings he dismissed, such as climate change denials, the "RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA" claim, and investigations into alleged Russian links.

He insisted that only a "strong and smart (high IQ) President" could provide the necessary guardrails against AI. Trump's pushback against AI fears comes as international alarm grows, causing stocks to fall. Tech leaders like Anthropic's Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and Elon Musk of SpaceXAI have called for slowing down AI development.

Microsoft also released a "humanist AI code of conduct". Concerns about uncontrollable AI and energy-intensive data centers have intensified, with some Americans worried about their impact in the upcoming midterm elections. However, Trump argued that the US must not lag behind China in the AI race, and he criticized AI opponents as "traitors and leakers".

China's spy chief warned about AI posing a threat to national security, citing advanced hacking capabilities seen in AI systems. Meanwhile, global leaders, including the UN Security Council, UN human rights chief Volker Turk, and even British King Charles III, are convening AI-related discussions to address the rapidly growing concerns.
