‘Help me walk again’ – 12-year-old Ofankor-Pokuase crash survivor appeals for support

Twelve-year-old Angelina Stickings is pleading for assistance to aid her recovery and mobility after a deadly road accident in Ofankor-Pokuase. The tragic crash on August 13, 2026, resulted in 12 fatalities and numerous injuries, including Angelina who lost both legs and her father. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where she continues to experience pain.

Her primary goal is to regain her health and return to school. Following the incident, Angelina's family kept her father's death from her, as they grapple with the immense medical expenses and the aspiration to fund prosthetic limbs for her.

The accident occurred when a tricycle rider was struck, causing a cascading series of collisions. John Stickings, Angelina's brother, is anxious about the financial burdens, stating that approximately GH¢200 million has already been spent on her medical care. He is urging the government and other compassionate individuals to support the family's efforts to provide Angelina with prosthetic limbs and help her return to school.

Additionally, the National Road Safety Authority's Senior Planning Manager, Felix Owusu, is investigating the crash. He noted that the driver of the tipper truck initially fled the scene but has since been apprehended and is cooperating with the inquiry. Owusu emphasized the importance of public support for Angelina and other survivors, stating that it would aid in their recovery and reintegration into society.
