Hajj 2027 registration for UAE pilgrims opens today

Registration for UAE citizens to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage in 2027 has opened today, according to the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat. The registration window closes on September 25 and is open to individuals aged 15 and over who have not previously performed the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Hajj represents one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam, obliging all capable Muslims to undertake the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.

UAE nationals can register using the authority's mobile application or website. The selection process will be automated, evaluating applicants against specific criteria and requirements. The authority anticipates concluding the selection by October 9 and will subsequently publish the list of approved pilgrims. In 2026, approximately 6,230 Emiratis embarked on the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi authorities have announced stringent regulations for pilgrims, who originate from various countries. Those attempting to perform Hajj without the requisite visa risk incurring a fine of up to 20,000 Saudi riyals ($5,333), deportation, and a prohibition from re-entering the kingdom for up to a decade. Saudi Arabia reported that 1.7 million pilgrims converged at spiritual sites for this year's Hajj.

Of this number, 1,546,655 were from outside the kingdom, while 160,646 were domestic pilgrims, encompassing both citizens and residents.
