Hajj 2027 registration for UAE pilgrims opens today

Registration is now open for UAE citizens who wish to participate in the Hajj pilgrimage next year, according to the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat. The registration period, which extends until September 25, is open only to citizens aged 15 and above who have not previously undertaken the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Hajj is a fundamental pillar of Islam, and it is obligatory for all Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey at least once in their lifetime.

UAE nationals can register through the authority's dedicated app or website. The selection process will be automated, taking into account various criteria and requirements. The authority anticipates completing the registration process and notifying the approved pilgrims on October 9.

In 2023, approximately 6,230 Emiratis embarked on the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities have introduced stringent regulations for pilgrims, who have been traveling from various parts of the world. Those who attempt to perform Hajj without the required visa could face a fine of up to 20,000 Saudi riyals ($5,333), deportation, and a prohibition from re-entering the kingdom for up to a decade.

Saudi Arabia reported that 1.7 million pilgrims converged at the holy sites during this year's Hajj. Out of these, 1,546,655 were from outside the kingdom, while 160,646 were domestic pilgrims, including both citizens and residents.
