Group mourns deaths of four policemen, others in Benue attack

Prayer and Support for Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies mourned the deaths of four policemen and seven others who were killed in an attack on the Ayilamo community in Benue State. The attack took place between Thursday night and early Friday morning on 11 September 2026. The group expressed their condolences to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, as well as the police force, families and colleagues of the deceased officers.

The attackers are believed to have entered the community from Alufu Road in Taraba State, according to residents.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that four policemen and seven civilians were killed during the assault. The group praised the bravery of the deceased officers, who put themselves at risk to protect lives and defend the community. They noted that several people were injured, and some remain missing following the attack.

The group called for better support for security personnel, including improved intelligence, equipment, logistics, communications, and welfare. They urged authorities to locate the unaccounted individuals, provide medical care to those injured, and hold those responsible for the attack accountable. They also emphasized the need for stronger intelligence-gathering and early-warning systems to help security agencies respond quickly to threats.

The group prayed for the deceased's souls and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies.
