Giants’ offense rolls over the Cowboys to give coach John Harbaugh a 28-20 win in his debut

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Jaxson Dart connected with Isaiah Likely for two touchdowns and Devin Singletary on another, while Cam Skattebo ran for a score in his first game back from injury. The New York Giants began their season with a 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, marking John Harbaugh's first game as their coach.

Dart showcased his passing skills, connecting with Likely on eight catches for 78 yards, while Singletary added a touchdown. Dart also contributed with 54 rushing yards, including a couple of slides and a dive to avoid unnecessary hits during his rookie season. The Giants' quarterback completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards, demonstrating his ability to keep the defense off balance.

Skattebo, who returned from injury, rushed for 81 yards on 18 carries, providing a boost to the Giants' ground game. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott completed 22 of 34 passes for 175 yards, finding wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and Javonte Williams for touchdowns. However, Prescott also threw an interception just before halftime, hampering the Cowboys' offensive momentum.

The Giants' defense struggled in their Week 1 game, allowing the most points in the NFL last season at 30.1 per game. Defensive pass interference calls favored Dallas, contributing to eight penalties for a total of 85 yards. Additionally, the Cowboys suffered from costly penalties, including a taunting call on Javonte Williams and a face-masking flag on linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku. Despite these challenges, the Cowboys' defense managed to recover fumbles, preventing the Giants from capitalizing on their turnovers.
