From Bhagalpur, a bomb threat to BRICS partners and PMO, claim Gujarat cops

At around 10 a.m. on September 10, an official Gujarat government email account received a threat email. The message warned of bomb attacks targeting the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister offices in Delhi, and BRICS Summit participants, including China, Russia, and Iran leaders. The threat's seriousness was underscored by the inclusion of top dignitaries from the 11-member bloc, who would attend the summit on September 12-13.

Police swiftly moved, uncovering the email's origin in Bhagalpur, Bihar, about 1,900 km from Ahmedabad. Two suspects were arrested, one from Bihar and another from Jharkhand. They allegedly received funds from unknown Bangladesh-based individuals to send the email threat. The digital trail traced the email to Bhagalpur, leading to the arrest of Roshan Kumar Rajendra Kumar Bhumihar.

Further interrogation yielded a list of 513,847 email IDs, created for sending threatening emails and engaging in cybercrimes. The police suspect the men received money in cryptocurrency from co-conspirators in Bangladesh but could not disclose the exact amount. Authorities are now investigating the email IDs to determine if they were used for other threats and their connections to other cases.
