‘Forged Consensus In A Polarised World’: S Jaishankar Hails India’s ‘Strong Convening Power’ Amid Global Conflicts

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed pride in India's ability to bring nations together during the BRICS India Summit 2026, despite a highly divided world. The summit, attended by 32 delegations comprising 11 member states, 10 partner countries, four regional organizations, and seven international organizations, was held at a time of global conflicts and political divisions.

Jaishankar highlighted India's "strong convening power" in successfully forging consensus among the participating countries, even in contentious areas such as the West Asia conflict. The participating nations agreed on a joint statement emphasizing peace, security, stability, the smooth flow of global trade, supply chains, and energy, as well as the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Jaishankar emphasized that the summit created an atmosphere for open and comfortable conversations among world leaders, contributing to broader global discussions on major international issues. He described the summit as a testament to India's ability to unite countries and facilitate dialogue amidst geopolitical tensions and competing global interests.
