Bauchi CCN Urges Christians to Shun Hate Speech

The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) in Bauchi has urged voters to evaluate political candidates based on their character, performance, and not on religion, ethnicity, or hate speech as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections. Rev. Prof. Collins David Agbong, CCN's chairman in Bauchi, made this appeal during the organization's annual revival event at the Church of Pentecost, Anglican Communion, Bauchi.

Agbong emphasized the church's role in fostering peaceful and issue-focused politics, rejecting the notion that politics is inherently corrupt. He stressed that voters should focus on the actions of politicians, as it is their fruits that determine the right leaders. According to Agbong, "Politics is not a dirty game. It is the politicians that make politics a dirty game."

He advised that the Church and the CCN advise society and its members to vote for those who represent the people's, God's, and the Church's interests. The 2026 revival, held annually in September, brought together pastors and lay leaders under the theme "Grace upon Grace" from 1 John 1:16. This theme was meant to remind believers that both public service and personal life depend on divine grace, not human effort alone.

Agbong also called for prayers for Nigeria, Bauchi State, and wisdom for the electorate ahead of the 2027 polls, as faith-based organizations in Bauchi pledged to intensify voter education, peace advocacy, and a campaign against divisive language in churches and communities.
