Fast Pass at HIA: Who is eligible, how to register and what happens to your data

Doha, Qatar: Fast Pass is an optional facial recognition service at Hamad International Airport that enables Qatar Airways passengers to pass through certain airport checkpoints without extensive document checks. Introduced in collaboration with Qatar Airways, this service utilizes biometric verification to identify registered passengers through their facial image.

Fast Pass is currently available to Qatar Airways passengers on specific flights, starting in Doha, who are at least 18 years old and hold a valid passport. While the service aims to streamline the travel experience, it is currently not accessible to passengers with disabilities. The decision to utilize Fast Pass is entirely at the passenger's discretion, with the option to opt out in favor of the standard airport procedure.

Registration for Fast Pass can be completed through the Qatar Airways app or at self-service kiosks at Hamad International Airport. Those registering via the kiosks must do so for each individual trip, while the app facilitates a one-time registration, allowing continued use of Fast Pass for future eligible journeys.

Before submitting their information during registration, passengers are presented with a Privacy Notice outlining how their personal and biometric data will be utilized. It is mandatory for passengers to review and accept this notice, adhering to applicable data protection regulations. Even after activation, passengers must retain their passports, as they may still be necessary for immigration or e-gate verification or if biometric cameras fail to recognize their identity.
