Ecuador appoint Gallardo as national team head coach

On September 13, Ecuador announced the appointment of Argentine Marcelo Gallardo as the new head coach of the national team. This move comes after the country's federation decided not to renew the contract of local coach Sebastian Beccacece, who was dismissed following a loss to Mexico in the World Cup round of 32 in June.

In a message shared on social media, the Ecuadorian Football Federation expressed confidence in their players and their ability to succeed. They encouraged supporters to believe in the team's potential, stating that they have every reason to do so.

Marcelo Gallardo, who is 50 years old, had been unemployed since leaving his second tenure at River Plate in February. During his first stint with the Argentine club, he secured two Copa Libertadores titles. Prior to that, he managed Uruguay's Nacional club and Saudi Arabia's Al-Ittihad.

Ecuador's next match is scheduled to be a friendly against South Korea on September 24.
