Delhi teen dies weeks after he was assaulted by truck drivers over theft suspicion

An 18-year-old man, Ram Kumar, died at a Delhi hospital nearly two weeks after being allegedly beaten by truck drivers in Bhalswa Dairy area, police reported. The incident occurred around 7 pm on August 29, when Kumar, along with four others, was allegedly caught by the truck drivers on suspicion of theft. He was then allegedly brutally beaten by them.

Kumar was taken to Burari Hospital on August 30, where he was examined for bruises and injuries, but no vital or grievous injury was detected. He was treated and discharged. Kumar returned to Burari Hospital on September 9 for a check-up after complaining of breathlessness and was subsequently referred to BJRM Hospital and Rajan Babu TB Hospital, where he died during the night of September 9-10.

A PCR call was made by Kumar's brother on August 30, who stated that Kumar and four other boys had been stealing cables. Kumar's family did not seek legal action at the time. Another PCR call was received by police at 12.36 am on September 10 regarding Kumar's death. An FIR was registered at Bhalswa Dairy police station under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relates to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Two accused, Muntiyaz and Naeem, were arrested. A post-mortem examination was conducted on September 12 to determine the exact cause of death. Police are now investigating to trace the remaining accused.
