Croatian climber rescued from Mt Kinabalu may face action

A Croatian climber, Mauro Persic, has been rescued after falling while climbing Mount Kinabalu, but he may face legal action for using an unofficial route and climbing without a permit, according to Sabah tourism officials. The 46-year-old is currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. Sabah Parks director Maklarin Lakim revealed that Persic did not have a climbing permit and chose a village route over the official path.

Sabah tourism minister Jafry Ariffin stated that the authorities are investigating the situation and will take appropriate action once Persic has recovered. Persic was reported missing on September 6 while climbing the mountain and was found safe the following day, with the assistance of a team of 43 rescuers. He sustained injuries to his right leg, ribs, and hands, and was initially treated at Timpohon Gate before being transferred to Ranau Hospital for further care.
