Chisco Donates Buses to Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Backs Inmate Rehabilitation

Chisco Group has donated two buses to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos. The purpose is to aid in transporting awaiting-trial inmates to court, helping to improve their rehabilitation. The buses can accommodate up to 100 people each, subject to approved seating and security arrangements. These vehicles were presented as part of celebrations marking the 70th birthday of Chisco Group's Founder and Executive Chairman, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, MFR, CON.

The donation aims to address transportation issues that can hinder the timely processing of inmate court appearances. The Ikoyi facility currently houses over 3,000 awaiting-trial inmates, and delayed transports can lead to missed appearances and case adjournments. Chief Chidi Anyaegbu explained that he chose to mark his birthday by addressing a real issue affecting Nigerians' access to justice.

Chisco Group promises to maintain the buses, oversee their usage, and collaborate with correctional authorities to evaluate their impact on court attendance and case progress. Additionally, Machine Nationwide Limited, a subsidiary of Chisco Group, will provide automotive maintenance training to eligible inmates. This initiative aims to equip inmates with practical skills for better prospects upon their release, reducing reoffending rates and fostering societal reintegration.

The facility's Officer in Charge welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the need for comprehensive correctional interventions that focus on equipping inmates with skills and economic opportunities.
